Damietta Governorate to receive investments worth EGP 13 B in the 2022/2023 FY plan

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development reviewed, in a report issued by it, the Citizen's Investment Plan for Damietta Governorate for the year 2023/22, in the context of continuing to announce the Citizen Investment Plan in all governorates of the Egyptian Republic for the fourth year in a row, to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (22/2023). 2023), and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, confirmed that the launch of the “Citizen Investment Plan” reflects the state’s keenness to involve citizens in the efforts made to develop the planning and follow-up systems, to provide long-term and comprehensive development, and in a way that contributes to addressing development gaps between the various governorates, and the localization of sustainable development goals and to achieve SDG 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goals.
She stressed that the citizen is the real pivot of development. Therefore, it is necessary to empower him and provide him with data on the development programs and projects the country is implementing.
El-Said added that all development plans adopted by the state aim to improve citizens' quality of life and that this will not be achieved without active community participation, in line with "Egypt's Vision for 2030".
She pointed out that the Ministry of Planning has taken many steps aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and assurance.
Regarding the citizen's investment plan in Damietta Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reaches 225 projects and that the value of public investments directed to Damietta Governorate in the 2023/22 plan amounts to EGP 13 billion, an increase of 100% over the 2022/21 plan, in addition to the projects directed through the 2022/21 initiative "Decent life".
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Damietta Governorate in the 2023/22 plan, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that assets amounting to EGP 9.6 billion were directed to the transportation sector, at a rate of 74%, followed by the housing sector, at a value of EGP 783.6 million, or 6%, then the health sector, with investments amounting to EGP 544.1 million, or 4%, the higher education and scientific research sector, EGP 462 million, or 3%, and the local development sector, EGP 439.7 million, or 3%, and about other sectors in the governorate, investments amounting to EGP 1.2 billion, with a percentage of 9%.
The report indicated that the number of villages targeted by the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative in Damietta governorate reached 28 villages. In addition, the number of beneficiaries reached 245 thousand people. 13 first aid points, 20 health units, 373 classrooms, 45 schools, 4 drinking water stations, 28 sanitation projects, 6 treatment plants, 6 residential buildings for vulnerable families, 5 social units, and 33 mobile network towers.
The report indicated that the most critical development goals in the housing sector and slum development in Damietta Governorate in the 2023/22 plan are to allocate about EGP 436 million for drinking water services and direct EGP 15 million to strengthen electricity networks.
