The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development organized a session entitled “Governance for Sustainable Development: The Egyptian Experience” as part of the activities of the second day of the fourth edition of the Arab Week for Sustainable Development held under the title “Together for Sustainable Recovery”.

The session was attended by Eng. Ashraf Abdel Hafeez, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Databases and Government Services Affairs, Dr. Saleh Al-Sheikh, Head of the Central Agency for Regulation and Administration, Ambassador Ashraf Rashid, Chairman of the National Committee within the framework of Egypt’s membership in the African Peer Review Mechanism, and the Head of the Elders of the Common Market Organization for Eastern and Southern Africa.
 Dr. Sherifa Sharif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), Dr. Asma Ezzat, Director of the Governance Center at the Institute, also participated in the session. The session was moderated by Dr. Khaled Zakaria Amin, Head of the Center for Macroeconomic Policies at the Institute of National Planning (INP).

During the session, Engineer Ashraf Abdel Hafeez gave a presentation entitled "Digital Governance" and the presentation addressed the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in developing government services.

She stressed the ministry's keenness to expand digital transformation projects and develop services provided to citizens to achieve the highest levels of citizen satisfaction, in addition to expanding the establishment of mobile technology centers with partner ministries, which would save the citizen time and effort and provide him with quick service at an appropriate cost.
Abdel Hafeez referred to the role of the Supreme Council for Digital Transformation, established by Resolution No. 501 of 2017, and the National Payments Council, established by Resolution No. 89 of 2017, in the governance system.
The Assistant Minister of Planning shed light on the G2G National Digital Transformer project for the Egyptian government, which aims to activate and facilitate communication between the various government agencies securely through a closed central communication unit.

 He referred to the birth and death registration system, where the total number of developed health offices reached 4,666, in addition to issuing notifications of births and deaths in hospitals in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) and linking them to the birth and death registration system in health offices in the governorates.
