The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced the launch of the "Guide to a Gender Responsive Sustainable Development Plan" and made available on its website mped.gov.eg, which was prepared in cooperation with the Macroeconomic Reform and Stability Project funded by the US Agency for International Development.

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the guide reflects the great importance that the state attaches to empowering social groups at all levels.

El-Said pointed out that the guide is the first of its kind, which sets an integrated and applicable framework for integrating these groups into development plans, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.
She explained that in the context of ensuring that government agencies implement what is stated in the guide, as well as activating community participation and educating citizens about the steps taken by the state in various fields, the guide was made available on the ministry's website.

Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister of Planning for the Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, reviewed the contents of the guide.

Helmy indicated that it includes an introduction dealing with the participatory methodology in preparing the guide, in cooperation with 12 government agencies, including the National Council for Women, the National Council for Disability Affairs, the ministries of Education and Technical Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, Commerce and Industry, housing, utilities, and urban communities.

Helmy added that the guide deals in detail with the conceptual framework of gender-responsive planning, through the concept of gender-responsive planning and its objectives, and the expected effects from its application, as well as the technical tools used in the framework of gender-responsive planning, and the mechanisms used to integrate this concept in all stages of development programs and projects.

It also reviews relevant international experiences, to extract best practices and lessons learned.

The Assistant Minister of Planning explained that the guide also includes proposed interventions, procedures, and activities to meet the needs of social groups in 11 sectors, namely education, health, agriculture and irrigation, housing, transportation, local development, industry, investment, and finance, social solidarity, manpower, cultural and sports services, and media.

Helmy referred to the development of a training plan to enhance the capabilities of planning officials in the relevant government agencies on gender-responsive planning and how to follow up and evaluate performance indicators for various interventions and programs.
