Planning Ministry releases "Citizen Investment Plan" of Cairo in FY 2021/22

Egypt’s Planning Minister Says EGP 81.9 billion has been allocated as public investments directed to Cairo governorate, in FY 21/2022.
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced in a report issued by it the features of the citizen’s investment plan for the Cairo governorate for the year 21/2022, as part of the continuing announcement of the citizen’s plan in all governorates of the Republic for the third year in a row.H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, explained that the "Citizen Investment Plan" adopts the methodology of programs and performance and evidence-based planning.
The plan provides detailed information on the most important development indicators at the level of each governorate, and its share of public investments in the plan for the fiscal year (21/2022), in contrast to the investments directed within the national project for the development of the Egyptian countryside, “a Decent Life”.El-Said added that the "Citizen Investment Plan" serves as an important database that helps citizens follow up on projects being implemented in their geographical scope (governor, center, village), to ensure the quality of their implementation following the best specifications and relevant standards, which contributes to activating community follow-up.Regarding the citizen’s investment plan in Cairo Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate amounts to 1,051 projects and that the value of public investments directed to Cairo Governorate in the 2021/2022 plan amounted to EGP 81.9 billion, an increase of 55.8% over the 20/2021 plan.About the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Cairo governorate with a plan for the year 21/2022, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that investments worth EGP 39.8 billion were directed to the transport sector, at 48.6%, followed by the housing and slum development sector, with a value of EGP 17.7 billion. The investments of the higher education and scientific research sector amount to EGP 5.6 billion, or 6.8 percent, and the health sector is EGP 3.9 billion or 4.7 percent, and the local development sector is EGP 3 billion or 3.6 percent.The report indicated that the most important development goals in the housing sector in Cairo Governorate in the 21/2022 plan are to direct about EGP 1.9 billion for drinking water and sanitation services, in addition to directing EGP 427.8 million for electricity services.The number of housing sector projects is 93. The most important 22 projects of the transport sector in the governorate are the electric train project (Adly Mansour / Tenth of Ramadan / New Administrative Capital), the New Administrative Capital Monorail line project, as well as the development of Cairo's first line trains. In the higher education and scientific research sector, it is targeted to implement 135 development projects, including the establishment of Ain Shams National University, the establishment of Helwan National University, the establishment of the Science and Technology City for Electronics Research and Industry, in addition to the establishment of the Egyptian French University. In the local development sector, it aims to implement 444 development projects, including projects for the construction of housing units, paving of main streets in the governorate, as well as the replacement and renewal of car and pedestrian bridges. The most important development goals in the local development sector are paving local roads with about EGP 1.2 billion and directing EGP 194.3 million to strengthen the electricity networks in the governorate.
