H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met recently with Antonio Vigilante, the international consultant, and Elena Panova, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt; to discuss ways of cooperation in implementing the presidential initiative for the integrated development of the Egyptian countryside, "a Decent Life".During the meeting, El-Said confirmed that the ministry is following up the presidential initiative, a (Decent Life), through specific performance indicators and an electronic system that monitors needs in a digital form and periodically follows up on project implementation rates and the level of achievements. The ministry is also currently, in cooperation with Oxford University, measuring the multidimensional poverty rate at the national and local levels, which helps in measuring the impact of the state’s efforts to improve the rate of availability of basic services, according to El-Said.El-Said also referred to the Center for Spatial Variations in the Ministry, which enables the state to follow up on all projects throughout Egypt. She explained that all indicators were placed on a base map for each village, showing all the characteristics and the level of services associated with them.El-Said added that the ministry is also responsible for coordinating all initiatives undertaken by all state institutions and development partners so that they are integrated with the state’s efforts within the framework of the “Decent Life” initiative.
She added that among those important initiatives that are being worked on and will be launched soon is the “National Project for Development” The family”, which will be implemented in the villages of the “Decent Life” initiative.El-Said explained that the ministry is also responsible for the financial management of the project and the follow-up of the financial performance with the various implementing agencies regularly.El-Said explained that the presidential initiative, a (Decent Life), was initially launched as an initial stage in January 2019, as 375 villages were launched. She pointed out that the initiative aims to improve living and investment in people, improve infrastructure and urban services, especially sanitation, water and roads, and the quality of human development services.
