PLANNING MINISTRY REVIEWS MOST PROMINENT FEATURES OF THE URBAN DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENT PLAN FOR FY 2021-22

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development reviewed the objectives of the 2021-2022 plan for the urban development sector, the total investments of the sector development plan.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the urban development sector is one of the dynamic and fast-growing sectors that provide citizens' needs for housing, water, and sanitation services.El-Said explained that the total investments targeted for the urban development sector with its three components amounted to EGP 259.1 billion, or 20.7% of the total investments in 21/2022. El-Said added that investments directed to water and sanitation projects constitute the largest percentage of the sector’s investments, at 49%, at a value of EGP 127 billion, compared to 32% for real estate activities, at a value of EGP 82 billion, and 19% for construction and building works, at a value of EGP 50 billion.On the achievements of the urban development sector, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development clarified in a report that the urban development sector has achieved many achievements, which reflected the intense trend of implementing major projects, social housing projects.The report of the Ministry of Planning also included the goals of the 21/2022 plan, as the plan aims to increase the GDP of the urban development sector at constant prices by 5.1% to reach about EGP 733.9 billion, compared to about EGP 698.3 billion during the year 2021/20.The report of the Planning Agency referred to the construction sector, where the report indicated that it is targeted to increase the output of this sector by about 8% to achieve an output of EGP 280.4 billion at constant prices during the year of the plan, compared to about EGP 259.4 billion during the previous year, in addition to water, waste and recycling sector.
The report also mentioned that the 21/2222 plan aims to achieve an output of EGP 23.8 billion at constant prices, with a growth rate of 3.5 percent over the previous year 2020/21.
The report also touched on the output of the urban development sector at current prices, as it is targeted to reach EGP 1289 billion, compared to EGP 1161 billion in 20/2021, with an annual growth rate of 11%, contributing to 19.4% of the GDP by the end of Plan 21/22.
