Main / Media / News / Ministry of Planning launches the website of Women initiative in decision-making centers

04 January 2022

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, in cooperation with the National Council for Women (NCW), launched the website of the initiative to enroll women in decision-making centers, which aims to develop a comprehensive vision of the numbers and percentages of women's presence in decision-making centers. This is within the framework of the assignments of the President of the Republic to monitor the status of women in decision-making positions, whether in leadership positions or the boards of directors of public and private institutions.Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the initiative for women in decision-making centers has several goals. In addition to creating an accurate, up-to-date, and complete database with the numbers of women in decision-making centers and leadership positions versus the numbers of males over three years (2019-2020-2021); in all facilities within the borders of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The initiative also aims to produce several important statistics on the governorates; sectors; and activities that are more representative of women in those locations, which helps in setting the necessary policies to enhance the role of women. The initiative also aims to determine the trend of women's participation in leadership positions and decision-making centers over the past years; And then to foresee the future, and determine the extent of the impact of economic, social, and environmental changes on the percentage of women's presence in those sites.

Dr. Hala El-Said emphasized the pivotal role that women play in economic activity, noting that promoting women's economic empowerment is not limited to the social dimension or aims only to achieve equality, but also to enhance opportunities for economic growth."Increasing the percentage of women's participation in the labor market with the same percentage of male participation leads to an increase in the GDP of countries in varying proportions, explaining that this percentage reaches 34% in Egypt," El-Said explained.El-Said also made it clear that the political leadership's interest in women is consistent with international efforts to reduce the gender gap. Referring to the Gender Gap Index (GGGI) issued by the International Economic Forum; consists of some sub-indicators; the first is the Economic Participation Index, which includes the gender gap in leadership positions (legislators, senior officials, and managers).
The website https://wil.mped.gov.eg/ launched by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development; An electronic form that includes some questions directed to all establishments of different classifications within the borders of the Arab Republic of Egypt; So that the Egyptian state can evaluate the status of women in leadership positions and decision-making positions.
