Main / Media / News / Planning, Health ministries target 6.5 million citizens in an awareness campaign on polio vaccination

14 December 2021

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launched a media awareness campaign by sending 6.5 million text messages to citizens, parents of children targeted for vaccination, who are registered in the database of the birth and death registration system in health offices, as part of the national polio vaccination campaign, to raise awareness of the importance of vaccination.

Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, affirmed the ministry's keenness to cooperate with all state institutions and provide the necessary support to contribute to improving the standard of living and the level of services provided to citizens.

Al-Saeed explained that the ministry worked with the Ministry of Health and Population to automate 4,600 health offices at the state level and link them to the birth and death system, which comes within the framework of the state’s orientation towards digital transformation, mechanization, and development of government services, and to achieve the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Al-Saeed referred to the effort made concerning the mechanized system for registering births and deaths, noting that Egypt won first place and the golden shield for the project supervised by the Ministry of Planning in 2018 in the administrative innovation competition organized by the African Organization for Public Administration during the activities of the thirty-ninth session of the organization’s general conference in Botswana.

For his part, Engineer Ashraf Abdel Hafeez, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Digital Transformation and Information Infrastructure said that the vaccination system is through which compulsory periodic vaccinations are registered in vaccination units at the level of the Republic for newborn children, from the age of one day to a year and a half for Egyptians and non-Egyptians residing in the Republic.
Abdel Hafeez explained that the current vaccination campaign against polio for children up to 5 years will start from the 19th of this month to the 22nd of this month at the nearest health unit, or through mobile medical convoys passing through homes. It is noteworthy that there are 4,600 health offices at the level of 27 governorates, all of which are linked on one database at the central data center of the Ministry of Planning, where the birth and death registration system includes the population census of the Arab Republic of Egypt at present, which increases or decreases gradually according to what is recorded from Cases of births and deaths at the level of the Republic.

The system includes all the data that is recorded for all health offices in the governorates of the Republic in all its details in terms of the number of deaths and births, their location, and data on the case in real-time. Statistics on population increase.
