Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development inaugurates the second session of the Financing for Development Conference

Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, opened the second session of the Conference on Financing for Development convened by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
During his opening speech, Dr. Ahmed Kamali stressed that the state is working hard to diversify the sources of financing development plans and programs, by expanding the funding base in partnership with the private sector and regional and international sovereign funds.
Kamali pointed out that the Egyptian government has limited fiscal space, despite this, the state pays great attention to promoting public investment.
Kamali stressed that the integrated planning system in Egypt is compatible with the UN goals for sustainable development.
Kamali explained that the Egyptian government is working to localize sustainable development goals within the Egyptian governorates and to deal with development gaps within each governorate to direct funding more efficiently and determine the financial space for each governorate.
The Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development also referred to the role of Egypt's Sovereign Fund in creating investment opportunities that seek to benefit from untapped assets within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals.
Kamali pointed out that the establishment of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt in 2018 aims to increase investments, diversify sources of financing for the sustainable development goals, optimize the use of state assets and resources, and achieve sustainable financial surpluses through a balanced and diversified portfolio.
Kamali explained that the fund established four sub-funds in the areas of diversified health services, infrastructure, financial services, and digital transformation, tourism, and real estate investment.
