The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, has started implementing a series of awareness-raising seminars on the sustainable development goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030 for university students nationwide, via the Zoom electronic platform.
Dr. Sherifa Sharif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), explained that the set of seminars comes within the framework of the institute's strategic plan for awareness, integration, and partnership among all parties to disseminate and introduce the concept of sustainable development in line with the "Egypt Vision 2030."
 Sherif indicated that the themes of the seminars were the concept of sustainable development, from the Millennium Development Goals to the development goals, sustainable development goals, Egypt’s position in the sustainable development report 2020-2021, Egypt’s vision 2030 and its modernization, governance and its definition, principles, values, application, and measurement indicators as well as the impact of applying Governance in achieving sustainable development goals.
Sherif added that the first phase of a group of awareness seminars targeted Damanhour University students, benefiting 50 students, Port Said University students, and 40 students.
The awareness seminars included a set of presentations, including a presentation on governance and anti-corruption. It included several topics, namely the definition of governance, its origins, policies, and applications of governance, its governing principles, anti-corruption efforts in Egypt, as well as Egypt's classification in governance indicators.
A presentation entitled "Governance for Sustainable Development" was also presented, which included the relationship of governance to sustainable development, and the implications of weak governance in achieving sustainable development represented in administrative and financial corruption.
