The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development reviewed the objectives and strategic pillars, as well as the axes of work and the objectives of the 2021/2022 plan for the supply sector and internal trade.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the 2021/2022 plan seeks, in its orientations and priorities, to achieve two goals that complement each other. The second is an economic goal that seeks to revitalize the Egyptian economy and return the production cycle to the fullest extent possible.
El-Said clarified that the main objectives of the catering sector are to provide food security, create a strategic stock of basic commodities and regular supply of commodities in the markets through supply chains, in addition to developing internal trade and revitalizing their markets to increase their contribution to economic growth and job creation, as well as enhancing the role of government agencies.
Regarding the axes of the catering sector’s work, El-Said indicated that the main axes of the sector’s work include five elements represented in providing food security requirements, expansion in commercial and logistical areas and supply chains, in addition to developing and raising the efficiency of the internal trade sector, as well as supporting basic commodities, controlling markets and protecting the consumer.

The strategy also focuses on expanding the establishment of commercial areas and logistic centers to raise the efficiency of commercial markets and increasing the number of food commodities offered in the markets for more than 100 commodities to expand the range of options for consumers while ensuring their regular presence in the markets.
The strategy also works on following up the implementation of the system of selling subsidized bread in all governorates of the Republic, and the continuous development of supply offices to become service centers for citizens through training workers and providing the necessary equipment within the framework of the universal service offices project.
On the objectives of the 2021/2022 plan, the report indicated that it includes expanding the provision of basic commodities such as fresh meat, poultry, packaged sugar, refined oil, packaged rice, and pasta, and developing and raising the efficiency of 95 branches of commodity and wholesale companies complexes at a value of 37 million pounds compared to 77 complexes in 2020/2021 for EGP 32 million.
