The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - launched a new course of the training program "Building National Cadres in Digital Transformation & Smart Governance" in Guimarães, Portugal.

 The launch of the new course came in light of the cooperation between NIGSD and the various international universities and institutes in the fields of training, capacity development.

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of NIGSD stressed the importance of training in light of Egypt's interest in governance and digital transformation.
 El-Said pointed to the need for continuous training for the leaders of the Egyptian government in light of the presidential interest in digital transformation and the establishment of smart cities in Egypt, especially the administrative capital.While Dr. Sharifa Sharif, Executive Director of NIGSD, pointed out that the training program witnessed the attendance of 25 senior management employees in 12 ministries and government agencies.
Sharif explained that the program was designed specifically for the state’s administrative apparatus, as it focuses on some basic pillars; which includes the definition and mechanisms of smart governance, support for innovation in government, and organizational structures required to implement smart governance, in addition to how laws and legislation support smart governance.
Dr. Sherifa Sharif stressed the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences with international organizations, explaining that NIGSD has established many partnerships with international institutes and centers for digital transformation to provide some programs that benefit many government employees.
The training program concludes with field visits to the municipalities of Guimarães and Valongo; They are two Portuguese cities participating in the Smart Cities Challenge, a European Commission initiative that supports 136 cities in using cutting-edge technologies to drive smart, green, and socially responsible recovery.
