Planning, environment ministers discuss arrangements for Egypt's hosting of COP27 international climate conference in 2022

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, held a meeting with Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment to study arrangements for Egypt's hosting of the COP27 Climate Change Conference next year in Sharm El-Sheikh.
During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said stressed the importance of Egypt's hosting of the conference and the need to mobilize all efforts to bring the conference out in a way that reflects the interest of the Egyptian state and the African continent in the issue of climate change.
El-Said reviewed several ideas and initiatives that can be worked on in preparation for the Cop27 conference, including building a network and research platform that includes all institutes and research centers working on the issue of climate change and sustainable development, at the local and African levels, and building a clear policy to deal with climate change.
Dr. Hala El-Said also discussed during the meeting the need to expand the adoption of green projects in the state's investment plan, which amounted to 30% of the total investments of the current fiscal year, and is targeted to reach 50% next year, referring to the green incentives that the state can implement for projects that take into account environmental dimensions.
The Minister of Planning also indicated that the structural reforms program launched by the government last April takes into account the need to revitalize the sectors that support the green economy and that take into account the environmental dimensions in more than one of its axes.
For her part, Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, confirmed that the results of Egypt's participation in the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow are being studied, in preparation for Egypt's organization of the next summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The Minister of Environment added that bilateral meetings are being held with some ministers to determine the course of each ministry's contribution and responsibilities within the work of the higher committee that was formed under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
