The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development holds a workshop on the use of gender indicators in preparing reports

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the Equal Opportunities Unit in the Ministry, held recently a workshop entitled 'Using gender indicators in preparing reports".
The workshop came within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness on the necessity of institutional building for equal opportunities units.
It also (The workshop) aimed to and strengthen the frameworks concerned with activating these units.
Dr. Shaima Siraj, Director of the Equal Opportunities Unit at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, referred to the results obtained within the framework of the first and second phases of the workshop "Institutional Strengthening Program for Equal Opportunities Units", which was launched by the Ministry during August and September of this year.
Siraj explained that these results consisted in understanding the role, tasks, and importance of these units, and crystallizing the experience of the ministry to present them in an integrated manner that can be emulated in any governmental or private agency.
Siraj also pointed out the importance of gender indicators in preparing reports in that they are a tool used to measure those differences between men and women, to become a means to determine the amount of change required to address those differences.
It is noteworthy that the workshop comes as a continuation of the series of programs that support the institutional frameworks of the equal opportunities units.
The workshop witnessed a review presented by Mrs. Wafaa Majed, the national and regional statistical expert on gender, the review highlighted the translation of gender issues into indicators and statistical tools for measuring gender indicators in a way that helps decision-makers to become familiar with various aspects of societal issues.
