A delegation from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development paid a field visit to projects to generate electricity from wind energy and photovoltaic cells that are being implemented by NERA (New and Renewable Energy Authority) in the regions of Zafarana and Jabal al-Zayt, as part of the follow-up to the investment plan projects.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the visit comes within the framework of following up on the implementation of the state's plan to achieve the goals of sustainable development 2030 and the trend towards a green economy.El-Said added that the visit also comes in light of encouraging investment in green projects and targeting the contribution of renewable energy to 42% of the total electric energy produced in 2035.The delegation of the Ministry in the field visit was headed by Mr. Mohamed Farid, Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for National Projects and Infrastructure.Farid explained that the visit witnessed several meetings with officials of (New and Renewable Energy Authority), noting that the most important achievements made on the ground were discussed, as well as some obstacles that may prevent the implementation of projects.The Assistant Minister of Planning for National Projects and Infrastructure added that, during the field visit, the projects of the wind energy power plant in Zafarana with a capacity of 545 MW and the wind power plants in Jabal Al-Zayt with a total capacity of 580 MW were followed up. These projects are being implemented in cooperation with (German Construction Bank, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, Spain), in addition to following up on some of the ongoing projects, which are the project to construct a power plant using photovoltaic systems in Zafarana with a capacity of 50 MW, in cooperation with the German Development Bank KFW Which costs about 36 million euros.




It should be noted that investments amounting to EGP 2.324 billion were directed to the plan of the New and Renewable Energy Authority for the fiscal year 2021/2022 to implement several projects, including the establishment of a 250-megawatt wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez in cooperation with (German Construction Bank and the European Investment Bank the French Development Agency, and the European Union). This is in addition to the construction of (3) power plants using photovoltaic systems in Kom Ombo and Zafarana, with a total capacity of 120 megawatts, in cooperation with (the German Development Bank, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency).Moreover, the plan includes the implementation of land preparation projects necessary for the electric feed-in tariff project in the regions of East and West Nile, and Kom Ombo, where the authority provides and makes available land to investors under the usufruct system for the implementation of electricity production projects from renewable energy.The visit was attended by Ms. Heba Mohamed, Director General of Utilities and Technical Office Officer, Ms. Nora Farouk, a researcher at the Electricity and Energy Department, and Ms. Shaima Samir, a researcher in the plan preparation and follow-up sector, from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
