The Minister of Planning and Economic Development meets the Director of the Environment and Sustainable Development Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met with Ambassador Mohamed Nasr, Director of the Environment and Sustainable Development Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and an expert on financing issues within the framework of the African Negotiators Group for Climate Change. The meeting came on the sidelines of her participation in the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP-26), held in Glasgow, United Kingdom, and whose activities will continue until November 12.During the meeting, El-Said stressed the importance of the issue of climate change for the Egyptian economy, and the ministry’s role in confronting it by directing government investments, the electronic follow-up system for implementing green projects, applying environmental sustainability standards, as well as the developmental aspect of the Decent Life Initiative.El-Said explained that Egypt has made a lot of efforts to confront climate change.She noted the need to highlight those efforts in preparation for the upcoming Conference of Parties in Sharm El-Sheikh.For his part, Ambassador Mohamed Nasr reviewed the activities of the Conference of the Parties, whether during the negotiations at the technical level, or the political pledges made voluntarily by countries and international institutions in the framework of efforts to confront climate change. Ambassador Mohamed Nasr referred to the financing negotiations within the framework of the agreement, reviewing the most important issues under discussion and their impact on the Egyptian economy, and the experiences of other countries in this field.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of good preparation for the upcoming Conference of Parties in Sharm El Sheikh, and the launch of several initiatives and projects through it, whether at the national or African levels. They also stressed the importance of research centers in the fight against climate change, and the importance of consideration for technology transfer to developing countries.
