Egypt's NIGSD organizes a webinar entitled “Renewable and Sustainable Energy in Africa” with the participation of 17 African countries

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, organized a webinar entitled "Renewable and Sustainable Energy in Africa".
The webinar was attended by Dr. Hanan Rizk, Director of the Training Network for Management Institutes in Africa "Tanmia", and Dr. Omar Ramadan, Professor of Renewable Energy at the University of Nottingham, UK, lectured.
Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), explained that holding the webinar comes in light of what the Egypt Vision 2030 aims to build a competitive, balanced and diversified economy within the framework of sustainable development, where renewable energy plays a pivotal role in that.
Sherif noted that the webinar included a presentation that discussed what renewable energy is and the long-term benefits of acquiring it.
Various types of renewable energy technologies were also shown, including solar and wind energy.
Sherif added that the growth of each type of renewable energy in the past decade was assessed and presented, including potential natural resources for renewable energy sources in Africa.
Examples of innovations related to renewable energy were also discussed, including recent projects implemented with partners from Nigeria and Egypt.
For her part, Dr. Hanan Rizk explained that Egypt participated in this webinar for the first time, noting that during the session she moderated after the end of the webinar, a set of recommendations were agreed upon, represented the importance of the role of the House of Representatives in enacting legislation and laws that encourage investments in the field of renewable energy.
45 participants from 17 African countries participated in the webinar, including participants from Zewail City for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Students in the renewable energy engineering program, representatives from the ministries of foreign affairs, justice, agriculture, Egyptian communications, academics, university students, representatives of some Egyptian governorates, a member of parliament from southern Sudan.
This is in addition to the participation of representatives of some government institutions in Egypt and Africa, with a participation rate of 38% of males and 62% of females.
