The Ministry of Planning discusses "Decent Life”‘s achievement of SDGs with European development partners

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held a workshop, via video conferencing, with representatives of many development partners from the European side.
The workshop reviewed the main features of the national project for the development of Egyptian rural villages, "A Decent Life", and the expected developmental impact of the presidential initiative on achieving sustainable development goals and reducing poverty rates in Egypt.Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, stressed the ministry’s keenness to enhance cooperation with all development partners, and to benefit from its experiences in development initiatives, to implement the best international standards in implementing “Decent Life” projects, in a manner that ensures maximizing the development effects of the initiative, to reach communities sustainable rural areas, to achieve Egypt’s 2030 vision.For his part, Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Sustainable Development Plan Follow-up Affairs and General Supervisor of the “Decent Life” initiative at the Ministry of Planning gave a detailed presentation on the features of the initiative, and its objectives in the areas of infrastructure, social interventions, and economic development, employment and performance indicators.Helmy reviewed the extent to which a “Decent Life” has achieved the sustainable development goals, noting that the initiative converges with the 17 goals, most notably the first goal “Eradicating Poverty,” the third goal “Good Health,” the fourth goal “Good Education,” and the eighth goal “Decent Work.” and “Economic Growth.”
Helmy pointed out that the first phase of the initiative aims to improve the quality of life index by more than 60 percentage points in the villages of the 52 centers, given the qualitative leap that the project makes in the case of sustainable development in various services, especially sanitation, education, gas, electricity, paving, youth services and others.The Assistant Minister of Planning described "Decent Life" as an "exceptional project", especially concerning the short timeframe for its implementation and its goal of achieving a qualitative leap for the Egyptian society.
He noted that the project follows an innovative method of financing through initiatives and the participation of the private sector and civil society organizations with a link and motivate Egyptians abroad to participate.
The workshop also discussed the impact of the "Decent Life" initiative on the plans and work programs of international partners in Egypt, and ways to achieve compatibility between them.Representatives of European organizations praised the initiative and the development interventions intended to be implemented in the Egyptian countryside, and their consistency with all sustainable development goals.The workshop was attended by Mr. Sherif Daoud, Vice President of the Sustainable Development Unit, and representatives from the European Union at the Ministry of Planning, the German Reconstruction Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Reconstruction Bank, and the French Development Agency.
