H.E. Al-Mashat: Continuous follow-up on joint committees’ outputs to implement signed agreements and documents

Following the directives of H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, regarding continuous monitoring of recommendations and outputs of joint committees, the Ministry held a meeting to review the implementation status of the resolutions of the 10th session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Supreme Joint Committee, which was held in Cairo last October, chaired by the Prime Ministers of both countries.

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat emphasized that the Egyptian-Lebanese Supreme Joint Committee represents an important institutional framework for advancing economic and technical cooperation between the two countries. She stressed Egypt’s commitment to regularly following up on joint committee outputs and transforming agreements into concrete implementation steps that serve the interests of both nations.

She noted that several joint committees — both supreme and ministerial — have convened during the year, highlighting the government’s keenness to activate the agreements and documents reached. This approach reinforces efforts to achieve economic development and opens opportunities for cooperation at both the private-sector and government levels. H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat also emphasized that the initiatives led by H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi consistently expand the horizons of cooperation between Egypt and its sister and friendly countries around the world.

The meeting included representatives from various national entities and discussed mechanisms to activate the documents signed during the 10th session of the Supreme Joint Committee. The discussions emphasized the importance of completing procedures for several cooperation documents in the fields of electricity and renewable energy, labor, antiquities, accreditation and health inspection, and the Institute of National Planning (INP).

The meeting also addressed the formation of the Egyptian side in sectoral technical committees in areas including youth, social solidarity, food safety, environment, consumer protection, and health, in addition to promoting cooperation in religious affairs, pharmaceuticals, justice, financial oversight, water resources and irrigation, and finance.

The meeting further reviewed ways to activate cooperation areas within the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA), the Ministry of Local Development, and the Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA).

During the meeting, the Ministry welcomed the announcement by Lebanese authorities to open the period for regularizing the status of Arab and foreign workers in violation of residency and labor regulations, including Egyptian workers, until 31 March 2026. The Ministry also noted that the Ministry of Labor had announced on its official website an invitation for Egyptian workers in Lebanon to take advantage of the regularization period.

It is noteworthy that economic and technical cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Lebanon is governed by the Agreement establishing the Egyptian-Lebanese Supreme Joint Committee, signed in Cairo in 1996. The Supreme Joint Committee represents a key mechanism for coordinating cooperation frameworks in all fields with Lebanon.

Trade volume between Egypt and Lebanon reached USD 1 billion in 2024, and Lebanon ranks 22nd among countries investing in Egypt, with total investments of USD 390 million as of June 2024.

During 2025, eight joint committees were held, including the Egyptian-Algerian Supreme Committee, the Egyptian-Tunisian Supreme Committee, the Egyptian-Jordanian Supreme Committee, the Egyptian-Lebanese Supreme Committee, the Egyptian-Iraqi Supreme Committee, as well as ministerial committees between Egypt and Azerbaijan, Hungary, and Switzerland.
