22 November 2025

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat: Entrepreneurship is a pillar for the transition toward a productive, innovative, and more competitive economy.

The Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship is working to overcome challenges to solidify Egypt's position as an attractive destination for startups.

The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation participated in the award's judging committee within the Green Innovation category.

Three projects from companies benefiting from Egypt’s Initiative for Smart Green Projects were nominated in the Green Innovation category.

H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, attended the 5th Egypt's Entrepreneur Awards 2025 (EEA), which was organized at the Grand Egyptian Museum. The ceremony featured the announcement of winners in 15 different categories, including: Award for Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies, and Award for Innovation in Education, among others. The event was attended by Dr. Tarek Shawki, former Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mr. Hisham El-Khazindar, Managing Director of Qalaa Holdings for Financial Investments, and Mr. Amr Mansi, Founder and CEO of Ievents and founder of EEA.

The Ministry of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, represented by Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister for Strategic Partnerships, Excellence, and Initiatives, participated in the judging committee for the Green Innovation category. The winning companies across the 15 categories of the Egypt Entrepreneurship Awards were announced, with the Green Innovation category including three emerging projects from companies that graduated from the Ministry's National Initiative for Smart Green Projects.

During the event, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation delivered a speech congratulating the organizers on continuing the event for the fifth consecutive year. Dr. Al-Mashat reaffirmed that celebrating entrepreneurs and innovators is not a luxury but a necessity for any economy to keep pace with technological progress, increase competitiveness and innovation, and enhance Egypt's regional standing.

Dr. Al-Mashat noted that entrepreneurship and innovation are key axes of the new economic model that Egypt is working to adopt for a transition to a more diversified and productive economy, one that relies on value-added, technology and industry localization, and is consistent with regional and international changes.

Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted that the Egyptian state places entrepreneurship as one of the main sectors driving economic and social growth and development. Therefore, the efforts of the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship and the Advisory Committee for Entrepreneurship and Digital Economy, which is affiliated with the Cabinet, are integrated to move forward in developing the sector, increasing its competitiveness, and overcoming all challenges facing entrepreneurs.

Minister Al-Mashat pointed out that Egypt has launched an advanced digital infrastructure and is working to continue this development by adopting an Artificial Intelligence strategy and attracting technological investments. This strengthens Egypt's position as an attractive destination for companies in fintech, e-commerce, logistics, and other fields, utilizing the significant competitive advantages and human capital it possesses, as well as the presence of over 750,000 qualified graduates annually, including a large number in technological specializations.

Dr. Al-Mashat added that there are many challenges the state seeks to overcome to drive the sector toward further growth. For this reason, the government established the Ministerial Group for Entrepreneurship, which includes various national entities responsible for supporting startups, as well as a large segment of actors in startups, the entrepreneurship ecosystem, supporting entities, and investors. This aims for continuous coordination to discuss and overcome challenges, which will open horizons for increasing venture capital investments.
