Minister of Planning & Economic Development reviews the main objectives of Egypt’s electricity sector in the FY 21/2022 plan

The performance indicators of the electricity sector are among the main measures of the degree of economic progress of the country: Says Hala El-Said
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced recently the electricity sector goals in the current fiscal year 21/2022 plan, which is the fourth year of the medium-term plan for sustainable development (18/2019 - 21/2022).
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, stressed that electric energy is the mainstay for comprehensive development, as all industrial, agricultural, tourism, urban, and service sectors depend on it to operate their facilities and generate added value.
“Therefore, the performance indicators of the electricity sector are considered among the main measures of the degree of economic progress of the state, they are based on one of the international competitiveness standards, and in measuring the degree of improvement in the standard of living of citizens,” El-Said explained.
El-Said pointed out that the total investments targeted for the electricity sector in the plan for the year 21/2022 are estimated at EGP 43 billion.
Regarding the most important objectives of the electricity sector in the plan for the year 21/2022, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that it is represented in increasing the production of the electricity sector at current prices to about EGP 180 billion, compared to about EGP 168 billion expected in 20/2021, with a growth rate of 7.4% in the year of the plan, with a contribution of 1.8% to the total production for the year 21/2022.
At the level of the sector's output, it is targeted to increase it to about EGP 113 billion in the year of the plan, compared to what is expected in 20/2021 (EGP 103.5 billion), with a growth rate of 9%.
Concerning the most important projects targeted in the electricity sector with the plan for the year 21/2022, the report explained that they include the electrical feeding project for the East Al Owainat region, which aims to complete the electrical supply for the areas planned to be irrigated from groundwater in the East Al Owainat area within the Kharga Center in the New Valley Governorate, which is estimated at 300,000 acres, and within the framework of the plan for the year 21/2022, it is targeted to complete the works of the second phase of the project and to complete the works of the third phase of it.
This is within the framework of strategic projects to provide electrical power for land reclamation projects and investment activities in the region, as well as the electrical feeding project for land reclamation projects in Toshka area, which aims to complete the electrical supply for the South Valley area in Toshka in Aswan Governorate within the scope of the reclamation scheme of 920,000 acres, in addition to the project to complete Electricity connection with Sudan.
The aforementioned strategic projects included the exploration, evaluation, and extraction of nuclear ores, which is a strategic project that includes five sub-projects, represented in the project to assess and develop economic mineral reserves and their treatment, the project to extract nuclear elements, the project of the mine and pilot plant for the production of uranium, the project for the wide detection of nuclear ores, and the project to assess the reserves of deposits uranium
