Egypt to establish a fiber-optic network in villages with EGP 5.8 bn: Minister of Planning & Economic Development

Egypt’s Minister of Planning & Economic Development, Dr. Hala El-Said has said that 1,300 villages will be linked with fiber-optic cables at a cost of about EGP 5.8bn. The work will come as part of the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative and is being implemented to raise the efficiency of Egypt’s information infrastructure.
El-Said explained that the Ministry of Planning is entrusted with managing public spending directed to the implementation of these projects, including studying and evaluating the feasibility of the proposed projects, and ensuring that these projects are consistent with the economic and social development plan in a manner that ensures the achievement of Egypt’s Vision 2030.
Dr. Hala El-Said asserted that the project to connect fiber-optic networks is a prelude to relying on these networks in the future to provide internet, various communications, and Egypt's digital services, as part of the "Decent Life" initiative in the first phase and to ensure the speed of implementation rates according to the specific plans.
It is worth noting that the total estimated cost of implementing fiber-optic networks projects for the first phase of the national project for the development of Egyptian rural villages, "a Decent Life", which is distributed over 52 centers, benefiting one million buildings in the targeted villages.
Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development with The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) signed a protocol for cooperation in this project, which was signed by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning, and Raafat Hendy, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Infrastructure Affairs.
