The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - in cooperation with the College of Business Administration at the American University in Cairo (AUC), is holding a scholarship module on leadership and gender for many trainees representing five African countries.
The aforementioned trainees are alumni of the Institute’s training programs and the Association of Alumni of the Training Network of Management Institutes in Africa (TNMIA) for 2020 and 2021.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development who is acting also as chairwoman of NIGSD Board of Trustees stressed that gender equality is one of the important issues closely related to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
She added that gender equality is also a basic criterion for achieving the UN 17 SDGs and a prerequisite for facing the challenges in Africa related to achieving the goals of the Agenda 2063, which is alleviating poverty, reducing inequality, establishing peace justice, strong institutions, and creating meaningful partnerships that can all be better achieved by integrating the concept of gender in governance.
Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD noted that the training program supports participants in identifying hidden biases in organizational life against women, identifying personal and organizational strategies to overcome these biases, and suggesting a framework for thinking about gender more holistically.
It is noteworthy that the Module is the technical system used for non-academic courses and is a customized e-learning management system. It is easy to use with a wide range of features covering content, communication, collaboration, and management, and it also facilitates tracking and evaluation of participants.
