Ministry of Planning and Economic Development participates in VNR lab session on the sidelines of the UN (HLPF)
22 July 2021
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the Sustainable Development Unit, participated recently in the voluntary national report lab session on “The Role of Participatory and Comprehensive National Voluntary Reports for All Stakeholders in Accelerating the Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals”.
The session was held on the sidelines of the United Nations High-Level Political Forum in New York virtually via video conference.
During the session, the Egyptian experience in adopting a participatory approach in all stages of preparing the third voluntary report 2021 was reviewed, with the participation of civil society, the private sector, and international development partners.
The main results of the participatory approach in preparing the voluntary national report were also noted; which included ensuring greater representation and integration of all stakeholders.
The voluntary national report represents the efforts of the Egyptian state as a whole, not just the government, in addition to building a comprehensive database of initiatives implemented on the ground, as well as promoting and disseminating sustainable development principles, forming an interactive base with stakeholders, and encouraging companies to participate in other sustainable development activities.
Among the participating countries that presented their experience are Iraq, Sweden, Bhutan, Antigua, and Barbuda where each country represented the continent to which it belongs. Egypt's invitation came within the framework of close cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
