Egypt’s NIGSD holds an awareness session on the "Sustainable Development Goals"

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, held an awareness session on the "Sustainable Development Goals", as part of a series of awareness sessions offered by the Institute online in the field of governance and sustainable development.
Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, referred to the institute's role in training, research, and advisory services to enhance Egypt's progress and performance in terms of governance, competitiveness, and sustainable development.
The session came within the framework of the ambitious reform agenda set by Egypt to achieve its strategic goals for growth and development, and in light of the guidelines of Egypt’s Vision 2030, as well as supporting its main ambitions in economic and human development to successfully implement reform in each of the three priority dimensions: economic, social, and environmental.
El-Sherif explained that the awareness session held by the institute on the sustainable development goals included a presentation of the development of the concept of sustainable development, so that it includes attention to the environmental dimension, as well as the economic dimension and the social dimension, in addition to the most prominent advantages and shortcomings of the Millennium Development Goals.
The session reviewed Egypt's launch of the Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030, within the framework of a participatory approach in preparing and updating the strategy on the part of the government, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations, in addition to the participation of youth and academics.
The awareness session was presented by Dr. Heba El-Baz, Assistant Professor of Economics at the Institute of National Planning; and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at NIGSD, and Mrs. Radwa Mohsen, Deputy Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at NIGSD.
The session dealt with several topics, including the concept of sustainable development and its basic dimensions, sustainable development goals, Egypt’s position in the “Sustainable Development Report 2021,” clarifying what Egypt’s Vision 2030 is, its importance, and reasons behind updating it.
The session also reviewed local-global and regional developments and their relationship to Egypt’s Vision 2030.
