The Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Meets the Director-General of ADFD and the Director of Public Governance at the OECD
“Al-Mashat” discusses with the Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development the future of joint relations in financing renewable energy projects.
A mission from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development will visit Egypt soon to explore partnership projects between the two sides.
H.E. Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic
Development, and International Cooperation, held a series of bilateral meetings
during her participation in the 2025 World Governments Summit in Dubai, which
is held under the theme “Shaping Future Governments.” The summit, taking place this
week, has broad participation from heads of states, governments, and
international and regional organizations, with discussions focusing on various
cooperation opportunities.
Meeting with the Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for
Development
The Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and
International Cooperation held a meeting with Mr. Mohammed Saif Al-Suwaidi,
Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), to discuss the
status of ongoing cooperation programs between the Arab Republic of Egypt and
the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development. They also explored potential cooperation in
future projects.
H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat expressed her gratitude to the United
Arab Emirates and its institutions for their support and contributions to
funding development projects in Egypt, aligning with the Egyptian government's
development efforts and Egypt Vision 2030.
Both sides reviewed ways to expand cooperation as part of
broader efforts to enhance economic diplomacy for funding development in Egypt.
This includes efforts to encourage investment and improve the business
environment in key sectors such as renewable energy, technology and
telecommunications, agriculture, the green economy, and public-private
partnerships in seawater desalination projects.
They also discussed preparations for a mission from ADFD to
visit Egypt later this year to assess the future of bilateral relations and
explore future projects.
H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat reaffirmed the strong relationship
between the two brotherly nations across various fields, emphasizing its
importance in addressing regional challenges, particularly in the economic
sphere.
It is worth noting that the cooperation between Egypt and
ADFD began in 1974, making it one of Egypt's most important development
partners. ADFD has contributed to financing numerous priority projects in Egypt
across sectors such as agriculture, industry, electricity, housing, roads, and
agricultural development.
The total value of the cooperation portfolio with the ADFD
has reached 4 billion AED (equivalent to 1.1 billion US dollars) to finance 20
projects. Currently, many projects are being implemented, including the
planning and development of the Manshiyet Nasser area and funding for
micro-projects.
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
(OECD)
H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat met with Ms. Elsa Pilichowski,
Director of Public Governance at the OECD, and expressed her deep appreciation
for the fruitful cooperation between the Egyptian government and the OECD in
the framework of the EU-funded project "Support to Strengthen Public
Administrative and Economic Governance in Egypt" over the past three
years. This project has supported the Egyptian government's efforts to
strengthen the monitoring and implementation of priority public governance
reforms, particularly in supporting the implementation of Egypt Vision 2030 and
the National Administrative Reform Plan.
H.E. Minister Al-Mashat emphasized that this successful
cooperation has resulted in two key achievements: the OECD Public Governance
Review of Egypt and the Guide for Preparing the Annual General Economic and
Social Development Plan. These outcomes reflect the strength of the partnership
and its transformative contributions to governance and economic planning in Egypt.
H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat expressed her aspiration to further
enhance the implementation of the State's Public Planning Law No. 18 of 2022
through the establishment of governance structures for medium-term and annual
planning within the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and
International Cooperation. She also affirmed the need to promote sectoral
strategic policy planning, and project planning, as well as the preparation of
a planning guide for medium- and long-term plans, while deepening cooperation with
the OECD, and translating these efforts to tangible results that lead to real
change.
