H.E. Dr.
Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International
Cooperation, presented the progress of the National Project for the Development
of the Egyptian Family during a meeting of the Plan and Budget Committee in the
House of Representatives. The meeting focused on the actual implementation of
the Economic and Social Development Plan for the fiscal year 2023/2024 and
reviewed key economic indicators. The meeting was attended by Dr. Fakhry
El-Feky, Chairman of the Committee, and members of the Plan and Budget
Committee.
During the
meeting, H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized that the Ministry places utmost
importance on continuing the implementation of the National Project for the
Development of the Egyptian Family through its comprehensive developmental
dimensions, including: economic empowerment for women, service interventions,
cultural, educational, and awareness interventions, digital transformation,
monitoring and evaluation, and legislative intervention.
She added
that the Ministry is committed to ensuring the integration of efforts to manage
and monitor the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family
with its efforts to support the implementation of presidential initiatives,
including the Decent Life Initiative, which aims to improve the quality of life
for Egyptian citizens. The Ministry is also building on the successes achieved
through the project over the past three years, which contribute to the state's
strategic goals to build human capacity through the presidential initiative
"Bidaya".
H.E. Dr.
Al-Mashat highlighted that the National Project for the Development of the
Egyptian Family is one of the key foundations for achieving several goals
outlined in the National Sustainable Development Agenda: Egypt Vision 2030,
which emphasizes achieving a balance between economic growth rates and
population growth rates. The Ministry also addresses the population dimension
in the project as one of the key factors in the distribution of public
investments through the financial equation, ensuring the equitable distribution
of investments to address developmental gaps between regions and governorates.
She pointed
out that the merger of the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and
International Cooperation has contributed to strengthening the efforts to
implement the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family on a
national level, in collaboration with international development partners. These
efforts have been pivotal in ensuring the optimal continuation of the project,
building on the achievements made over the past three years. The Ministry has
allocated approximately EGP 2 billion for the project, in cooperation with
implementing agencies and partners, including the Ministry of Health, the
Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the National Council for Women. Thanks to
these efforts, the project has achieved several successes, especially in terms
of controlling population growth rates and empowering women economically.
As of
October 2024, the total number of beneficiaries from the project’s services
reached approximately 28 million citizens (90% of whom are women). The cultural
and awareness intervention sector benefited 66% of the population, while the
economic empowerment intervention benefited 31.5%.
H.E. Dr.
Al-Mashat explained that, in line with the implementation of the project, the
Ministry has already launched pilot operations for 10 Family Development
Centers, with 3 additional centers recently completed, as part of a target to
establish 52 Family Development Centers offering health services to families
and maternal and child care. Additionally, 1,641 daycare centers were created
and developed, surpassing the target of 1,000 centers.
The project
has also made significant progress in the economic empowerment of women. It has
successfully implemented numerous financial literacy, financial inclusion, and
entrepreneurship programs, as well as established workshops and production units.
A total of 24,000 projects were carried out to support economic empowerment,
contributing to the creation of 120,000 job opportunities through
micro-projects, productive families, and vocational training centers.
