Egypt’s NIGSD launches national initiative entitled “She is for a Digital Future” in cooperation with UNDP

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - launched recently the national initiative “She is for a digital future” in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the global company Cisco; which aims to bridge the digital gender divide.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development who is also acting as Chairwoman of NIGSD Board of Trustees said that the initiative comes in light of the political leadership's keenness to achieve equal opportunities and gender justice through the national strategy for the empowerment of Egyptian women.
The strategy includes directing to follow up on the developments of the executive position of the initiatives proposed by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the National Council for Women concerning empowering Egyptian women and placing them in decision-making positions.
El-Said pointed out that the initiative aims to shed light on the importance of women's presence in various fields in proportion to their competencies and capabilities through the state's integrated strategy to empower women within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030, through effective and sustainable mechanisms that ensure full implementation.
For her part, Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, indicated that the national initiative " She is for a digital future" comes within the framework of enhancing the role of Egyptian women in digital transformation and digital literacy by training female candidates from Egyptian universities and the government sector without discrimination.
El-Sherif asserted that it is intended to complete the training of 2,000 Egyptian women by the end of 2021.El-Sherif added that the initiative includes training courses in general and advanced computer skills, as well as training courses in gender parity, financial inclusion, and sustainable development goals.
It is noteworthy that the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030 seeks to emphasize Egypt's commitment to women's rights and put them into practice following the national charters, especially the 2014 constitution, and the international agreements, charters, and declarations to which Egypt is committed.
