Egypt’s NIGSD participates in technology projects’ camp to support special needs persons

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, participated recently in the Business Incubator of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, in organizing an intensive training camp for technology projects supporting people with special needs.
This participation comes in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program in Egypt, as part of the activities of the Sustainable Innovation Lab project.
In this context, Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, explained that the technology projects camp that supports people with special needs aims to enhance the capabilities of young people, develop their skills and support their capabilities, to contribute to the development of their projects aimed at enhancing technological services provided and supportive of people with special needs.
El-Sherif indicated that this camp comes within the activities of the Sustainable Innovation Lab project, which is implemented by the institute in cooperation with the Business Incubator of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, the United Nations Development Program, the Gemini Africa Foundation, and the Egyptian Exporters Association.
El-Sherif emphasized that the sustainable innovation lab project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa; it aims to support and develop innovations that come within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals.
El-Sherif indicated that the project includes four laboratories: green economy, digital transformation, creative economy, and government innovations.
El-Sherif added that the project aims to provide technical and technical support by providing laboratories to manufacture prototypes for these projects and help them test and verify these models using manufacturing technology, in addition to integrating the outputs of the work of these emerging companies graduating from the laboratory into global value chains by raising export capabilities for these companies.
