Main / Media / News / (Hayah Karima) deserves to be one of SDG Good Practices: Assistant Minister of Planning

07 July 2021

Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held on Wednesday a press conference headed by Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning to announce the details of the ministry’s success in including four additional Egyptian initiatives on the “SDG Good Practices” platform.
The listed projects were the Decent Life (Hayah Karima) presidential initiative, the Rowad 2030 project, the local development program in Upper Egypt, and the integrated system for preparing and following up the investment plan.

Dr. Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister to follow up on the implementation of the goals of the sustainable development plan highlighted the country's success in registering (Hayah Karima) within the international platform for accelerators of the goals of the United Nations last July.

Helmy added that the choice of the initiative came according to several considerations as it meets all the 17 UN sustainable development goals (17 SDGs) and takes into account the three main economic, social, and environmental dimensions, in addition to the fourth dimension in Egypt, which is the cultural dimension.

Helmy pointed out that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development launched an indicator to measure the quality of life in each village to measure the impact of the initiative on improving the quality of life in each village.

Helmy added that before 2019, there was no program directed to the villages most in need, until the President of the Republic launched (Hayah Karima) initiative, explaining that the Ministry of Planning conducted an urgent program to geographically target the poorest villages, where about EGP 950 million were spent in 3 months, before launching the initiative.

Helmy pointed out the positive impact of the initiative on improving the development situation in the Egyptian countryside.

Helmy explained that the total allocations directed to the initiative in 3 years were EGP 15.5 billion, to exceed EGP 200 billion in one the year 2021/2022, which represents a huge boom that results in many positive effects represented in revitalizing the national economy and turning the wheel of the economy and providing job opportunities.

Helmy stressed that the initiative contributes to accelerating the country’s efforts in achieving sustainable development goals.
