Planning Minister receives UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt to discuss updates of "Sustainable Development Goals Financing Strategy” project

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, received recently Mrs. Elena Panova, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Egypt, and her accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning’s General Office to discuss the developments of the project “Financing Strategy for Sustainable Development Goals in Egypt” which is being implemented within the framework of the signed cooperation protocol Between the Ministry and the United Nations, in cooperation with the joint SDGs Fund.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development.
At the beginning of the meeting, El-Said welcomed Ms. Elena Panova, expressing her appreciation for the efforts made by the United Nations Command in Egypt and its support for the Egyptian government, as well as the support provided by the United Nations Joint Fund for Sustainable Development Goals to estimate the cost of the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF) for development topics, sustainable development goals (SDGs) and an assessment of current financing.
El-Said explained that the "Sustainable Development Goals Financing Strategy in Egypt" project aims to access new sources of financing, attract additional funds and take advantage of the opportunities available to increase financing and plan to use it more effectively.
El-Said indicated that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development will chair the committee, which will determine the use of the available funding following the Integrated National Program (INFF) with the rest of the partners and United Nations agencies.
El-Said highlighted that Egypt is about to launch the 3rd voluntary national report (VNR) to be presented this year at the high-level global political forum, which follows up on the achievement of the 2030 sustainable development goals. The ministry will also organize a side event entitled “How the localization of the sustainable development goals can contribute to leaving no one behind?".
For her part, Ms. Elena Panova, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Egypt, expressed the United Nations' interest in providing the necessary support to the Egyptian government in achieving the sustainable development goals.
