28 June 2024
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has announced the availability of completed projects under the national initiative to develop rural Egypt, "Decent Life," for citizens via the mobile application "Sharek 2030." This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance community participation and ensure project follow-up to ensure their effective implementation.
H.E.Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized that Egypt's Vision 2030, in its updated version, places special importance on citizen participation in the development process. It enables citizens to regularly monitor state-executed programs and projects, enhancing effective participatory monitoring mechanisms. She noted that the "Sharek 2030" mobile app also provides citizens with the opportunity to propose priority projects, initiatives, and programs from their perspective, aligning with the General Planning Law activation.
El-Said further announced that detailed data on approximately 7,600 completed projects, totaling 66 billion EGP, have been made available. These projects are part of the first phase of the "Decent Life" project aimed at improving living standards in 52 centers across 20 rural governorates, benefiting around 18 million citizens in about 1,500 villages. She highlighted that Beheira governorate topped other governorates with approximately 17% of completed projects, followed by Sohag at 13%, then Qena at 11%, and Monufia at 8%.
Regarding sectoral distribution of completed projects, Dr. Jameel Helmy, Assistant Minister for Sustainable Development Plan Monitoring Affairs, stated that construction and development included 1,670 schools with over 11,000 classrooms, contributing to reducing classroom density. Additionally, 306 health units, 242 ambulance units to enhance healthcare services, 550 projects in the drinking water sector, 100 drinking water station projects, 100 sanitation service connection projects, and 3 treatment plants in Sharkia and Monufia governorates were completed. Approximately 500 projects were initiated for youth centers, along with 172 government service complexes and 148 agricultural service complexes.
The "Sharek 2030" app allows citizens to evaluate and propose suggestions regarding first-phase projects and propose projects for the second phase aimed at improving quality of life in rural areas, including infrastructure and human development, as well as promoting economic development and creating decent job opportunities benefiting 22 million citizens in 1,667 villages across 20 rural governorates.
It is noteworthy that "Sharek 2030" is the government's first interactive mobile application launched to inform citizens about developmental programs, projects, and their performance indicators across all sectors. The app provides a comprehensive database of state-executed projects and programs, enhancing mechanisms for communication and community participation. The application has been listed on the "Accelerating Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals" platform under the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Department.
