Main / Media / News / Matrouh Governorate to Receive 17.3 Billion EGP for 216 Development Projects in 2023/2024

12 June 2024

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has outlined in a recent report the features of the citizen investment plan for Matrouh Governorate for 2023/2024. This announcement is part of the ongoing effort to release the citizen plan for all governorates in Egypt for the fifth consecutive year. The aim is to raise awareness among citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2023/2024 and its role in achieving "Egypt Vision 2030."

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized that the updated version of Egypt Vision 2030 places significant importance on ensuring citizen participation in making development-related decisions. This participation benefits people as the core of development, achieves spatial justice, reduces geographic disparities, empowers local communities economically and socially, and provides basic services across all geographical areas to foster real development in society. She explained that these principles align with the General Planning Law of the State No. 18 of 2022, which prioritizes enhancing the participation of key stakeholders in the development process and encourages scientific research and innovation for sustainable, geographically and sectorally balanced, and environmentally sustainable development. Dr. El-Said added that citizen participation in the development process will not happen without providing detailed data on the state's development plans, enabling them to monitor their implementation regularly within a comprehensive and integrated framework to promote participatory planning.

Regarding the citizen investment plan for Matrouh Governorate, Dr. El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate amounts to 216 projects. The value of public investments allocated to Matrouh Governorate for 2023/2024 is 17.3 billion EGP, representing a 30% increase compared to the 2022/2023 plan.

Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Matrouh Governorate for 2023/2024, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development's report indicated that 8.5 billion EGP is allocated to the electricity sector, representing 49% of the total investments. The housing sector follows with 3.6 billion EGP (21%), the transport sector with 2.6 billion EGP (15%), higher education with 550 million EGP (3%), and the health sector with 165 million EGP (1%). Other sectors receive investments totaling 1.9 billion EGP (11%).

The report highlighted that the plan aims to implement 43 development projects in housing services in Matrouh Governorate. The primary developmental targets in this sector include directing approximately 670 million EGP to drinking water and sewage services. Additionally, 13 projects will be implemented in the health sector, focusing on the construction and development of 14 hospitals in the governorate. Moreover, 8 development projects will be carried out in the higher education sector, including the completion of Alamein International University.
