29 May 2024
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by Dr. Heba Youssef, Director of the Country Program Monitoring Unit at the Ministry, participated in a workshop on developing low-carbon hydrogen in Egypt. The workshop was held as part of Project 5.3 of Egypt's Country Program with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), focusing on financing and mobilizing investment in clean energy in Egypt. The event was attended by Ayman Soliman, CEO of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt.
During the workshop, Ayman Soliman stated that the Sovereign Fund of Egypt plays two roles: first as an investor and developer, and second as a partner in development and a catalyst for achieving our national vision. These roles are embodied in our membership in the National Hydrogen Council, in collaboration with our esteemed partners from the Ministry of Petroleum, the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Our goal is to establish a large zone for green hydrogen production, in line with Egypt’s strategic vision. He added that Egypt has all the necessary components to achieve great success in this field, including abundant renewable resources, vast lands, competitive operational costs, and a global understanding of the future of green energy.
On her part, Dr. Heba Youssef, Director of the Country Program Monitoring Unit at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, stated that today’s workshop is a major milestone under the umbrella of comprehensive cooperation with the OECD. It addresses a strategic area that is fully aligned with our national priorities to advance low-carbon green hydrogen and its derivatives in Egypt, both in the local manufacturing sector to reduce emissions and to promote Egypt as a hub for exporting green hydrogen to the region.
