Egypt's Ministry of Planning Showcases Sustainable Development Data Platform at OECD Meeting
25 May 2024
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the Sustainable Development Unit, participated remotely in the “46th Session of the Regional Indicators Working Group” organized by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This participation was part of the activities of the OECD’s Regional Development Policy Committee and came upon the organization’s invitation within the framework of Egypt’s country program with the OECD.
The session included several discussions on data related to development across various fields at the local level in different countries. Additionally, several countries presented their relevant experiences.
During the workshop, Nada Yacoub, Senior Economic Researcher at the Sustainable Development Unit, showcased Egypt’s experience in creating an electronic data dashboard to monitor sustainable development data at the governorate level. She highlighted that the primary goal of establishing the electronic platform is to provide sustainable development goal data to governors and decision-makers. This would enable them to formulate evidence-based policies that accelerate sustainable development according to the needs of each governorate. She emphasized that the Ministry of Planning focused on making the dashboard interactive, allowing users to compare the performance of different governorates on selected indicators and also to compare the performance of a single governorate across different goals chosen by the user. The dashboard also aims to generate detailed recommendations on the state of development in each governorate.
This electronic platform is part of the Egyptian government’s efforts to localize sustainable development at the governorate level. It complements the sustainable development localization reports launched by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in 2021, which analyze the status of all 27 governorates in the sustainable development indicators of the 2030 Agenda. Since its launch, the ministry has been working on creating the interactive data dashboard to complement the localization reports. The electronic platform is expected to be launched in the coming months.
