Minister of Planning Highlights State’s Focus on Enhancing Local and Regional Development

H.E.Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, outlined the government’s strategic approach towards bolstering local and regional development in the fiscal year 2024/2025. She addressed these key priorities during the deliberation of the draft law for the Economic and Social Development Plan at a session convened by the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee and Investment of the Senate. The meeting was chaired by Counselor Abdul Wahab Abdul Razzaq, President of the Senate, and attended by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, along with esteemed members of the council.
Dr. El-Said elaborated on the government’s commitment to advancing local and regional development through innovative programs and initiatives. She emphasized the activation of enhanced local development programs, citing an unprecedented surge in investments directed towards provinces, registering a remarkable 315% growth over the past decade. This surge underscores the government’s scientific distribution of investments, tailored to address the unique developmental gaps present in each province.
Highlighting ongoing efforts to improve intra-provincial connectivity, Dr. El-Said revealed that the targeted length of local roads to be paved by 2025/24 stands at 2165 kilometers. Moreover, she underscored the paramount targets at the local level within the local development sector, encompassing the paving of 1356 internal roads, the completion of 18 slaughterhouses, the National Solid Waste Management Program, lighting for 670 streets, establishing and enhancing the efficiency of 25 parking lots, the 100 Million Trees Initiative, the establishment of 52 markets and exhibitions, and the enhancement of the traffic system.
