The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by Ambassador Hisham Badr, Assistant Minister for Strategic Partnerships, Excellence, and Initiatives, and the National Coordinator for the Initiative, participated in the International Labour Organization (ILO) meeting via video conference. The meeting included the participation of ILO Director Eric Oechslin and Deputy Director-General Celeste Drake.
During the meeting, Ambassador Hisham Badr presented the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects and its objectives. He discussed the project evaluation mechanism, which relies on specialized scientific criteria and guiding models at various stages.
Ambassador Badr also highlighted the efforts of the initiative’s team in raising awareness and reaching approximately 18 million citizens across all governorates through workshops, training sessions, and seminars at various institutions, including local and international universities, with nearly 170 meetings held.
Ambassador Badr reviewed the success achieved by the initiative during the previous two cycles, emphasizing its importance as an unprecedented global model. The initiative provides real-world solutions to environmental issues stemming from Egyptian governorates and villages, showcased by Egypt at climate conferences. It also fosters a spirit of competition and innovation.
Badr explained that the initiative has seen significant improvements in the quality of projects submitted during its second cycle, reflecting its impact on changing the mindset of the Egyptian citizen and supporting the transition to a green economy. Additionally, the initiative has created a database and map of smart green projects, contributing to investment and financing opportunities.
Representatives of the ILO emphasized their commitment to supporting the initiative and the development and funding of the winning projects.
