Ministry of Planning Allocates EGP 2.2 Billion for 245 Development Projects in Fayoum Governorate for 2023/2024

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development outlined the features of the Citizen Investment Plan for Fayoum Governorate for 2023/2024 in a recent report. This announcement is part of the ongoing effort to release the Citizen Plan in all governorates of the republic for the fifth consecutive year. The aim is to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the Sustainable Development Plan for the fiscal year 2023/2024 and its role in achieving “Egypt Vision 2030.”
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized that community participation is the fundamental guarantee for localizing sustainable development goals at the local level, achieving balanced regional development, and bridging development gaps between different governorates. This aligns with Egypt Vision 2030 and the seventeenth global sustainable development goal, “Partnerships for the Goals.”
El-Said added that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is keen on involving citizens in all stages of the developmental process, which begins with planning, followed by monitoring and impact evaluation. The ministry continually takes accelerated steps to create an environment conducive to enhancing this participation, whether by providing detailed data on annual sustainable development plans, issuing periodic implementation follow-up reports, or proposing priority initiatives and projects within a comprehensive participatory approach to ensure “no one is left behind.”
Regarding the Citizen Investment Plan for Fayoum Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate amounts to 245, with public investments allocated for Fayoum in the 2023/2024 plan reaching EGP 2.2 billion.
As for the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Fayoum Governorate for the 2023/2024 plan, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development’s report indicated an allocation of EGP 738 million for the local development sector, representing 33%. This is followed by the higher education sector with EGP 315 million (14%), pre-university education with EGP 228 million (10%), housing with EGP 210 million (10%), and agriculture with EGP 139 million (6%). Other sectors in the governorate are allocated EGP 575 million (27%). This is in addition to projects directed through the “Decent Life” Egyptian Rural Development Project.
The report highlighted key developmental targets for the local development sector in Fayoum Governorate for the 2023/2024 plan, including the allocation of approximately EGP 309 million for environmental improvement and EGP 197 million for paving local roads. The number of development projects in this sector is 122. In the housing sector, the number of development projects is 32, with key targets including the allocation of approximately EGP 172.5 million for drinking water and sanitation services.
