Planning Ministry Unveils Cairo’s 23/2024 Citizen Investment Plan: 96 Billion EGP for 1260 Development Projects

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development presented in a report released by it the outlines of the Citizen Investment Plan for Cairo Governorate for the year 23/2024, as part of the ongoing declaration of the Citizen Plan in all governorates of the republic for the fifth consecutive year, with the aim of raising awareness among citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (23/2024) and its role in achieving “Egypt Vision 2030.”
Dr. Hala El Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, emphasized that community participation is the fundamental guarantee for localizing the goals of sustainable development at the local level, achieving balanced regional development, and bridging developmental gaps between different governorates, in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and the seventeenth goal of the global Sustainable Development Goals “Partnerships to Achieve the Goals.”
El Said added that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is keen on involving citizens in all stages of the developmental process, which begins with planning, followed by monitoring and impact assessment, and always works on taking rapid steps towards creating the appropriate environment to enhance this participation, whether by providing detailed data related to annual sustainable development plans, issuing periodic implementation monitoring reports, or proposing priority initiatives and projects, within a comprehensive and integrated participatory approach, in pursuit of the principle of “leaving no one behind.”
Regarding the Citizen Investment Plan in Cairo Governorate, El Said clarified that the number of developmental projects in the governorate reaches 1260 projects, and that the value of public investments directed to Cairo Governorate in the plan for the year 23/2024 amounts to 96.2 billion EGP.
As for the sectoral distribution of the targeted public investments in Cairo Governorate in the plan for the year 22/2023, the report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development pointed out directing investments worth 29.6 billion EGP to the housing sector, accounting for 31%, followed by the transport sector with investments worth 26 billion EGP, accounting for 27%, and the local development sector with 10.7 billion EGP, accounting for 11%, then higher education with 4.5 billion EGP, accounting for 4%, followed by the health sector with investments amounting to 1.9 billion EGP, accounting for 2%, and other sectors in the governorate receive investments worth 22.9 billion EGP, accounting for 24%.
The report highlighted the most important developmental targets in the housing sector in Cairo Governorate in the plan for 23/2024, which include directing around 19 billion EGP to drinking water and sanitation services, in addition to directing 691.5 million EGP to electricity services, with the number of developmental projects in this sector reaching 93 projects. As for the local development sector, the number of developmental projects reaches 495 projects, with the most important developmental targets in this sector being directing 8.8 billion EGP to local road paving, and directing 257 million EGP to support electricity networks. Moreover, the plan aims to implement 173 developmental projects in the higher education sector, including projects specifically for completing programs supporting human development and infrastructure development.
