Egypt's National Family Development Project aims to improve demographic characteristics: Says Hala El-Said
Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Hala El-Said met recently with Ambassador Ib Petersen, Deputy Executive Director, Management of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) during his visit to Egypt to discuss the possibility of cooperation in several important issues.
During the meeting, El-Said touched on the National Project for Developing the Egyptian Family.
The Minister showcased the pillars of the project, including awareness, health aspects, and women empowerment.
El-Said stressed the political leadership’s interest in the population growth control file, explaining that the real goal of the family development project is to improve the characteristics of the population in terms of levels of education, health, access to services and maternal health.
She also discussed aspects of cooperation with the Demographic Center in Cairo, as well as the settlement of sustainable development goals, the voluntary national report(VNR)and the high-level political forum.
The attendees discussed the possibility of future cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the United Nations Population Fund.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning; Dr. Mona Essam, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit at the Ministry; Dr. Amira Tawadros, Director of the Demographic Center in Cairo, and Ambassador Hazem Khairat; Director General of International Relations and Supervisor of the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry; Dr. Luay Shabana, Regional Director for Arab States in UNFPA; Frederika Meijer, UNFPA Representative in Egypt; Germaine Haddad, Assistant Representative of UNFPA in Egypt.
