06 April 2024
The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, is pleased to announce the continuation of its “Green Minds” initiative in preparatory schools across Cairo, Alexandria, Fayoum, and Ismailia.
Under the leadership of Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, the initiative aims to raise awareness about sustainable development goals, climate change, and fostering environmentally responsible behaviors among students. With a total of 18 training days scheduled across 9 schools, 1600 students will actively participate in the program.
The activities, conducted over two days, encompass a variety of experiential learning and interactive games focused on responsible consumption of resources such as food, water, and energy, as well as waste management. Additionally, the initiative addresses crucial topics including gender equality and reducing inequalities.
Students will engage in experimental games designed to illustrate the consequences of misconceptions and negative environmental habits while exploring their pivotal role in environmental preservation and societal impact. Interactive sessions challenging stereotypes about gender roles and promoting equality in rights and opportunities are also integral parts of the program.
Moreover, the Green Minds initiative team will conduct workshops on various recycling activities, dividing students into 5 groups to learn about recycling materials like paper, cardboard, and fabric. Handmade product manufacturing sessions, including pencil bags, aim to assist students in integrating sustainable practices into their daily lives. Additionally, artistic panels will be created for each participating school.
NIGSD remains committed to fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship among the youth, empowering them to become active contributors to a greener and more sustainable future.
