Ministry Official Attends Regional Climate-Focused Financial Management Conference

Dr. Mona Essam, Assistant Minister for Sustainable Development Affairs, represented the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development at the Regional Conference "Public Financial Management for Climate," organized by the World Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance. The conference aimed to underscore the significance of integrating climate objectives into decision-making processes and public financial management systems.
During her participation in the session on "Climate-Informed Planning," Dr. Mona Essam emphasized the importance of aligning climate goals with the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. She highlighted Egypt's efforts in updating its Vision 2030 to enhance integration among social, economic, and environmental dimensions, addressing pivotal issues such as climate change.
Dr. Mona Essam also highlighted Egypt's endeavors in climate action, including the launch of the "National Strategy for Climate Change 2050" and the "Green Village" initiative aimed at complying with global environmental standards.
Moreover, she stressed the importance of coherence between development and financial planning to achieve climate goals and the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has been working on linking investment plan flows with sustainable development goals to analyze and prioritize investments accordingly.
In collaboration with the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office in Egypt, the ministry aims to develop an integrated national financing framework and launch environmental sustainability standards to integrate sustainable development into development plans.
