06 February 2024

Dr. Sherifa Sherif, the Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), participated in the inauguration ceremony of the second batch graduation of the "Be an Ambassador" initiative for sustainable development. The event was attended by Dr. Hala El Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chair of the Institute's Board of Trustees, Dr. Yasmin Fouad, Minister of Environment, Dr. Rasha Ragab, Executive Director of the National Training Academy, Dr. Hussein Abaza, International Advisor for Sustainable Development and Green Economy, Dr. Eman Kareem, General Supervisor of the National Council for Disability, and Hisham Akasha, Chairman of the National Bank.

During her speech, Dr. Sherifa Sherif highlighted that today's ceremony marks the culmination of a long journey. She noted that the initiative started as an idea in 2018 aimed at empowering youth and familiarizing them with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It was implemented in 2020 for the first batch of youth, followed by the second and third batches, graduating a total of 3600 young men and women across 27 governorates and 24 public and private universities. She explained that the training workshops under the initiative were conducted in collaboration with various institutions such as "Decent Life" and the Red Crescent, as well as with several civil society organizations.

Sherifa emphasized several messages conveyed by the initiative, including empowering and enhancing the capacities of youth, empowering and integrating people with disabilities into society, localizing sustainable development goals in governorates, and considering gender equality. She also highlighted that the initiative stands out as youth-driven and relies on sustainable entrepreneurship projects.

Sherifa mentioned that the "Be an Ambassador" initiative has been internationally recognized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). She commended the team behind the initiative, expressing gratitude to Dr. Hussein Abaza for his efforts in supporting youth within the initiative.
