20 May 2020

Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MPED) has launched an online campaign under the slogan "Your Country Has Got Your Back", which aims to educate citizens, the private and public sector about all the policies and measures taken by the GOE to counter and protect against the impacts of the novel Corona Virus.

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development said that the choice of the name of the campaign "Your Country Has Got Your Back", reflects the citizen's feelings towards the government, whose actions and management of the crisis mainly target the Egyptian citizen. The protection of citizens comes first and before considering any financial losses while intensifying all the efforts of the state to avoid economic losses and consequences, highlighting that all government institutions are fully operational to continue the process of growth and development.

El-Said pointed out that the campaign highlights the set of measures aimed at protecting the sectors of industry, tourism, stock exchange, real estate finance, pensioners, daily labor and other sectors covered by the government's measures to reduce the economic and social impacts of the crisis. She noted that the campaign will continue throughout the period of the crisis to include all new protection decisions announced by the GOE.

The Minister explained that the circumstances of the current crisis pose a number of challenges to us, but at the same time offers many opportunities in the medium term, the most important of which is the localization of Egyptian industry to replace imports, especially imports of intermediate goods. She stressed the importance of focusing on supporting local industry to provide for the needs of citizens, as well as standing by the sectors most affected by the crisis, while protecting the vulnerable groups.

Dr. Hala El-Said confirmed that the Egyptian state managed to overcome The Corona Virus crisis thanks to the successful economic reform program initiated by the state in 2016, pointing out the importance of the solidarity of the government, private sector, civil society institutions and all citizens to get out of this challenge.

The "Your Country Has Got Your Back" campaign includes three main components: introducing the GOE’s initiatives and decisions to address the crisis, introducing how to benefit from social and business initiatives, as well as spreading a range of positive messages that help overcome the crisis and benefit from it.
