The Minister of Planning and Economic Development Dr. Hala El-Said’s participation in the 17th edition of the Asian Financial Forum titled "Multilateral Cooperation for a Common Tomorrow", held on 24 and 25 January in Hong Kong, witnessed intensive activity as she participated in several sessions in addition to holding a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Forum to discuss cooperation.
On the first day of the Forum, Dr. Hala El-Said participated in the second plenary session themed, "Multilateralism for a sustainable future,” which discusses the importance of multilateral cooperation, and how to harness its power to achieve sustainable development. During the meeting, El-Said emphasized the importance of financing sustainable development goals and accelerating progress towards those goals, highlighted the importance of enhancing inclusiveness and increasing the focus on global responsibility in pursuit of sustainable development goals, stating that progress does not come through individual endeavors but through cooperation among all.
As part of her participation in the plenary meeting, Dr. El-Said showcased available investment opportunities stressing the Egyptian government, and all its institutions, focus mainly on attracting investment and creating opportunities for investment partnerships serving the common interest of all parties. She further explained that Egypt is one of the promising destinations for domestic and foreign private investment, and also reviewed Egypt's efforts towards a green transformation.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Dr. Hala El-Said met, for the first time, the President of the New Development Bank (NDB) Dilma Rousseff where she confirmed Egypt's aspiration to deepen cooperation with BRICS countries, noting that there was a marked increase in Egypt's imports from BRICS by an estimated 33% compared to 2020, and in Egypt's exports to BRICS by 75% compared to 2020.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development and the Governor of Egypt to the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsBD) met with the Chairman of the IsDB Group on the sideline of her participation at the Asian Financial Forum, to discuss forms of cooperation. During the meeting, she praised the ongoing cooperation and coordination in all files between Egypt and the Bank Group, as the Bank Group is at the forefront of Egypt's strategic development partners, with a cooperation portfolio of about $19 billion. Cooperation between the two sides covers various areas of development, most importantly energy, infrastructure, industry, finance, agriculture, health, and education sectors. She also pointed at the Cairo Electric Bullet Train Project Agreements, set to be signed next February, explaining that it is one of the most visible projects with economic, social, and environmental returns as it represents a huge addition to the transport system by facilitating the movement of both people and trade, which will, in return, enhance the state’s strategy to establish a nationwide sustainable sophisticated transport system as one of the leading nations in Africa and the Middle East.
They included bilateral meetings of the Minister of Planning and Economic Development; Meeting Christopher Hui, Minister of Financial Services and Treasury of Hong Kong, reaffirmed the Egyptian Government's desire to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange mutual experiences, especially in the areas of economic and sustainable development, given the importance of Egypt's strategic position to become a center for the production and export of energy and goods to all countries of the world. During the meeting, it reviewed Egypt's reforms in previous years to facilitate investment procedures, and development projects what it has done to create infrastructure, and the role of the Egypt Sovereign Fund in creating investment opportunities for national and foreign investors.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development also inspected the Egyptian pavilion at the headquarters of the Asian Financial Forum; She met with many young Egyptians representing Egypt at the Forum and working on the Egyptian pavilion, stressing the importance of the role of young people in transmitting Egypt's culture and civilization to the countries participating in the Forum, and commending the role of young people in using Egyptian identity to attract investors from all countries of the world and their role in illustrating the real picture of the Egyptian economy and investment opportunities.
