Planning Ministry participates in a workshop entitled "Supporting Renewable Energy and Promoting Gender Equality in Egypt"

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by Dr. Shaima Serag, Director of the “Equal Opportunities Unit” in the Ministry, participated recently in a workshop entitled "Supporting Renewable Energy and Promoting Gender Equality in Egypt", hosted by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.
The workshop witnessed the presence of representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, representatives of the Green Climate Fund, and representatives of some advisory bodies concerned with empowering women and achieving sustainable development goals.
During a working session entitled "The National Strategy for Women's Empowerment in Egypt", Dr. Shaima Serag gave a presentation in which she focused on what has been achieved regarding the strategy of institutional consolidation of the unit in the ministry and its affiliates and the future vision.
The presentation addressed several pillars: the global perspective on gender equality in light of the sustainable development agenda, by presenting the most important international conferences that focused on the need for statistics on gender, leading to the launch of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 and the fifth goal on gender equality.
The presentation also touched on the Egyptian institutional and legislative frameworks that require gender equality in light of the 2014 Egyptian Constitution and the axis of social justice included in Egypt's Vision 2030.
The presentation also discussed the strategy of empowering Egyptian women in 2030, leading to the executive framework of the Egyptian government's work program, which aims to take positive steps towards the actual realization of gender equality.
The Director of the “Equal Opportunities Unit” at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development focused on the positive indicators that reflect the efforts of the Egyptian government in its orientations towards achieving more economic, political, and social empowerment of women by reviewing many indicators represented in the Egyptian women reaching 25% of ministerial positions during 2021 in when that percentage did not exceed 12% in 2017.
Moreover, she highlighted the achievement of full equality between men and women in the total number of members of the state’s administrative apparatus, she also shed light on the fact that the share of women in parliament seats reached about 28% in 2021, compared to a rate that did not exceed 2% in 2013.
