27 December 2023

In a pivotal stride towards advancing the "Decent Life" presidential initiative, Egypt's Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has joined forces with Galala University through the signing of a significant cooperation protocol. This collaboration is aimed at fostering the development of the most vulnerable villages in the country.

The protocol, inked by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning, and Dr. Mohamed El-Shennawi, President of Galala University, signifies a strategic partnership dedicated to uplifting the neediest communities as part of Egypt's Vision 2030—a localized manifestation of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.

During the ceremony, Dr. Kamali underscored the inclusive nature of Egypt's vision, emphasizing collaboration across government, private sector, civil society, academics, and youth. He outlined the vision's key principles, strategic objectives, and enablers, with a particular emphasis on governance, partnerships, and sustainable development goals.

Highlighting the colossal scale of the "Decent Life" initiative, Dr. Kamali reiterated the Ministry's commitment to achieving balanced development for over 58% of the rural Egyptian population. He stressed the importance of partnerships in this endeavor, citing the necessity for collaboration across all sectors of society.

Dr. Kamali also underscored the significance of economic empowerment for women, aligning with Egypt's national project for family development. He expressed his commitment to collaboration with Galala University, particularly in addressing challenges related to water, sanitation, healthcare, education, literacy, training, and cognitive development in rural areas.

Dr. Mohamed El-Shennawi, President of Galala University, praised the Ministry's role in the "Decent Life" initiative and emphasized the importance of comprehensive support and planning through partnerships. He announced the university's commitment to various training programs, workshops, and seminars aligned with Egypt's Vision 2030.

Galala University, as the first private university in Egypt to sign such a protocol, holds a prominent position among Egyptian and Arab universities. Dr. El-Shennawi highlighted the university's research endeavors, ranking, and collaborations, especially with the globally esteemed University of Arizona State.

Dr. Jameel Helmi, Assistant Minister of Planning for Sustainable Development Affairs, provided insights into the protocol's goals, emphasizing improvements in social conditions, infrastructure, housing efficiency, medical services, healthcare accessibility, education, literacy, food quality, and income enhancement in rural areas.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished individuals, including Dr. Rana Zaidan, Secretary-General of Galala University, Dr. Afaf Al-Oufi, Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Mona Mustafa, Director of the International Cooperation Unit at the university, and representatives from the Ministry of Planning.

This collaboration signifies a crucial step towards realizing the ambitious goals of the "Decent Life" initiative and Egypt's broader vision for sustainable development.
