26 December 2023

H.E. Dr. Hala El Said, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, has embarked on strategic discussions to outline the priorities of Egypt's investment plan for the upcoming fiscal year. In a recent meeting with ministry officials , Dr. El Said delved into the intricacies of the investment plan for the fiscal year 2024/2025, concurrently evaluating the progress made in executing the current fiscal year's plan, 2023/2024.

The meeting commenced with an in-depth briefing from ministry officials , elucidating the achievements of the ongoing fiscal year's plan, project implementation rates, and key sectors under the ministry's purview. Dr. El Said also examined the latest developments in the initial phase of the "Decent Life" project.

Noteworthy proposals for the upcoming fiscal year's plan were discussed, highlighting the strategic directions the ministry is poised to pursue. Dr. El Said underscored the imperative of early preparation for the next fiscal year, taking into account the multifaceted challenges facing Egypt and the need to proactively address all eventualities.

A key focus of the Minister's emphasis was on prioritizing investments in human resources and channeling public investments towards the health and education sectors. She advocated for innovative methods to involve the private sector, particularly in the realms of health and education.

Dr. Hala El Said stressed the importance of aligning the plan's targets with the updated version of Egypt's Vision 2030, as well as international goals. The Minister urged the "greening" of the plan, with an ambitious goal to increase the percentage of green projects to 50% in the next fiscal year, intricately linked to comprehensive programs and performance metrics.

The Minister reiterated the necessity of mobilizing additional resources to fund the "Decent Life" projects. The imminent commencement of the second phase of the initiative in the fiscal year 2024/2025 aims to significantly improve the living standards of Egyptian citizens in rural areas.

Discussions during the meeting spanned the anticipated investment structure for the next fiscal year, strategies to amplify the role of the private sector, and the efficient utilization of available resources through government austerity measures.

In an effort to ensure collaborative planning, Minister El Said directed the initiation of extensive meetings with the private sector, parliamentary members, experts, and civil society figures. This inclusive approach aims to make the upcoming plan truly representative of the aspirations of all sectors.

The high-profile meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Fathi Saqr, Economic Advisor to the Minister, Dr. Jameel Helmy, Assistant Minister for Sustainable Development Plan Affairs, and other key officials from various sectors.
