The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, participated recently in a panel discussion organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on the Zoom platform, entitled “Industry 4.0 in Egypt: Enhancing the readiness for the adoption of Industry 4.0.”
The seminar was held under the patronage of Mrs. Nevin Jameh, Minister of Trade and Industry, and in the presence of Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Basil Al-Khatib, Director and Regional Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Egypt, Dr. Ahmed Rizk, Deputy Director and Regional Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Egypt, and Dr. Hiroshi Kuniyoshi, Deputy Director-General of UNIDO.
Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), participated in the main plenary session of the panel in an interactive dialogue to discuss how to implement I4.0 and crystallize it in a way that serves Egypt's Vision 2030 and the sustainable development goals.
El-Sherif discussed the importance of including the principles of good governance in the digital transformation process and the adoption of I4.0 techniques to ensure inclusiveness in this process, with the importance of activating a framework for follow-up and evaluation to avoid its expected negative effects.
El-Sherif pointed to Egypt's tendency to adopt the techniques of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to achieve sustainable development goals in all fields, stressing that Egypt is moving at great strides in developing its infrastructure and human capabilities to achieve sustainable and comprehensive development.
She praised the major projects implemented by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, starting with the Births and Deaths System Project, the COVID-19 Measures Monitor, Egypt's Vision 2030 platform, and even the Governance Indicators Monitor, which the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development plays a pivotal role in implementing.
She stressed that all the mentioned projects aim to achieve digital transformation to support Egypt's level in global indicators of governance and sustainable development.
El-Sherif explained that NIGSD's participation in this event comes within the framework of the Institute's cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization "UNIDO", referring to the topics that the Institute and the Organization can cooperate in their context by providing training, discussion, and awareness sessions.
At the top of these issues is social and economic development at the local level and reducing the gap between the different Egyptian regions by building the capacities of national cadres in various fields to serve the digital transformation.
