Minister of Planning & Economic Development follows up on the draft OECD economic report for Egypt

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, with members of the committee formed by the decision of the Prime Minister, to study and review the draft economic report for Egypt prepared by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), to follow up and discuss the observations of various parties on the report before its issuance in its final version in February 2024.
The meeting witnessed the presence of Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning, Dr. Heba Youssef, Director of the Ministry’s Country Program Follow-up Unit, and the committee members, representatives of various entities.
During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said said that the meeting comes in light of Egypt’s adoption of a participatory approach in cooperation with all national authorities.
She noted that the report comes within the framework of maximizing Egypt’s benefit from the country program, which is the largest of its kind at the organization level.
She pointed out that the report reviewing the performance of the Egyptian economy comes as one of the most important projects of the first pillar of the country program, which is to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic growth.
El-Said explained that the report prepared by experts from the OECD is issued to the organization’s member states periodically, and is being prepared for Egypt for the first time within the framework of activating the activities of the country program.
El-Said pointed out that the report reviews the most important features of the Egyptian economy while providing the organization’s recommendations for designing effective policies that will overcome economic challenges, enhance the performance of the Egyptian economy, and advance comprehensive and sustainable growth.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Kamali highlighted three chapters of the report, noting that the first chapter deals with macroeconomic policies. In contrast, the second and third chapters focus on more specific topics that were chosen in consultation with the Egyptian government on national priorities. In contrast, the second chapter deals with the general business climate and enhancing the investment environment.
The third chapter deals with enhancing the efficiency of the labor market and mechanisms for creating decent job opportunities. He stressed the importance of the report because it sets good policies to improve the economic situation in Egypt.
